FDP Forum / Fender Amps: Vintage (before 1985) / 1966 Super Reverb

My '66 Super Reverb: power switch on, wait 20-30 seconds and switch off of Standby and there is a delay of 4-6 seconds before the amp "pops" on. Once the amp has been played for several minutes, if I switch to Standby and back on again there is no delay or pop.

Tubes, switch, caps...???

Sounds pretty normal to me. Some pop/thump, some don't. Some pop now, some later. She's just getting "juiced up".

No need for the standby switch at startup actually. It's more of a convenience when switching guitars. Customers wanted it so Leo gave it to them.

My 67 super reverb always thumps coming out of standby. I have been told by numerous tech that with a tube rectifier amp, you want to use the standby for 30 to 60 seconds to let the voltages and current come up. I was also told that not using the standby streses the output tubes upon full turn on.
