I like a traditional/vintage sounding Tele tones. What's the market these days? It doesn't have to be a Fender.

There's the new Professional Series (USA) - I've seen a couple, but haven't plugged on in. $1399 - $1499 if you want the Butterscotch on an Ash body.

There's the Squire Classic Vintage 50's Tele for $399. I have one of these, and it's a fine playing, nice sounding Tele. Traditional bridge with intonated barrel saddles standard! Pine body, butterscotch finish. The only very minor complaint I might make is the neck in on the thinner side, but not as bad as some, and I haven't experienced any cramping from playing it.

MIM Tele - are they $599 now? A serviceable Tele, but I'd want to change out the pickups, and it doesn't have a traditional ash tray bridge

Squier Affinity Series Tele - $199. Cant' tell you anything about the quality on these.

Those are the lefty options I know of - although the link below also has a couple Custom Shop lefties - if your budget extends to somewhere north of $3K !!!

A few listed at MF

Yeah, been looking at the G&L Tribute ASAT. Seems like a MIM-slayer for a little less money.

I had a Squier Vintage Vibe and it was all that. I also consider it better than the MIM just on the pickups. I would go that way again/ Probably shouldn't have sold it.

Actually I do have a nice Agile Tele clone with some GFS Lil' Killers in it. I could swap those out for some nice vintagey Tele pickups and be quite happy.

If I was going CS I would do a Warmoth build first - like my current Strat.

I really think my foregone conclusion here is to build one. I do like the G&L option though. Anyone here played/owned one? What are the pickups like? I know they're a bit out of the ordinary design.

I'd go G&L over MIM, too.

I haven't played one of their Tributes in years, but I believe they use USA pickups (and hardware?) on them - that's a plus.

So are you starting to play more again, Eric? I know you took a break for awhile...

...maybe we should talk if you'd be interested in the Squier Vintage Classic 50's Tele. I like it, but I don't play Tele that much, and I have my Warmoth for those times when I do. Mine's mint and, as I mentioned above, it's pretty impressive for it's price point - much more so than the MIM.

Let me know if that sounds interesting to you.

Yes, I am. But not much (really any) electric these days.

That does sound interesting. :-)

Adirondack has them in stock, but it's the older model with the 3 position switch and not the 4. Same price as the manufacturer.

Those Michael Kelly's are so sweet and are built really well!
I've had my eye on these for quite some time and they also have a few that have Fralin's installed and as you know, they are a really responsive pickups and bring out all of your picking dynamics and are quiet. So yeah, I've had my eye on their Fralin Special for a while, but they also do a TV JONES Tele that rivals the Carbonita Tele but with more pickup selector options, but would have to try it out first before I would modify it toward Fender specs, but that's the one I would sell off something to help with the purchase.
Michael Kelly's have really upped their game and other than finding the way I would want it configured, would have No Reservations in buying one.

They don't offer those lefty, unfortunately.

I'm still leaning towards snagging a '53 when they have them in stock again.

I really really like the new Fender American Professinal in butterscotch with the black guard.

What I can't get past is the price. I would give $999 for a new one. Not the $1499 they are listed at. I just don't see $1500 there.

Give it 12 to 18 months and they'll drop in price because they won't sell any.

Yes, but it will be really hard to find a lefty that's been hanging on the wall somewhere - they just won't order them. Maybe MF and Sweetwater might have some later for a lower price...
