In honor of Martins 2 millionth guitar, they are making 50 of these hideous looking atrocities.

Yup. I'd have to agree. Pretty ugly deal, there. I don't know why they waste good/rare wood on projects like this.

Martin has taken a lot of heat and criticism over this decision on the forum that is focused on that particular brand...
...I agree, hideous, and outrageously priced at $149,000!!! (But you DO get a nice watch with it...)

I'd be happy with a D-45S 1936 Authentic for $60k. These milestone guitars Martin makes are, interesting.
I think Martin has suffered some of the same issues Fender has and casts too wide a net in their product line.

While I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship required for that level of marquetry, this Steampunk model is not up to the aesthetic standard for which Martin is known.
Issuing that as their recognition of a production milestone is laughable.
[later]
I just checked their Website, and to mark their two millionth serial number, they've also changed their motto to, "Hey, We're Martin. We Know What We're Doing."

I think it's a cool wall hanger but then I like Steampunk. If I had $150k lying around would I buy it? Hell no.

No. I think that's why they throw in the watch with the deal.

Re the alloy bridge pins: "You gain three to four decibels in volume."
The marketing wank is strong in this one!
An increase of 6 to 10 dB in gain level creates a perceived doubling of volume. This means those bridge pins increase the volume of that guitar by about 50%!
If this were the case, every guitar maker would be using pins made of that unobtanium alloy.
C'mon, Martin. Don't embarrass yourselves; you are already a respected guitar maker. There's no need to make stuff up in order to sell your goods.

I think Chris Martin's cheese has slid off of his cracker; at the 5:16 minute mark in this NAMM video, he stops going on and on about the watch guitar, and pull out this guitar with a printed top touting pot and California's Prop 64; WHO CARES?! He waxes on and on about the reasoning, but I really don't see the connection to Martin guitars.

I've never been impressed with his interviews/videos. Have always thought him a bit odd, frankly.

schundog, that was hilarious.
"That iconic, contemporary California imagery..."
Jeez, Chris, just get it over with and admit you're sucking up to weed culture.
I'll bet that guitar comes with a hemp strap and a bottle of patchouli fretboard oil.

That was one really weird interview. Maybe someone slipped ol' Chris a fatty. My question is, how is that Weednought for cleaning your stash?

From Wikipedia:
"In 1985 Mattel used patchouli oil in the plastic used to produce the action figure Stinkor in the Masters of the Universe line of toys."
HAR! A little anti-hippie statement there, yo?
