Gettin kinda quiet over here. We need some controversy or somebody asking about who has better tone, Ginger or Mary Ann.

Well you can't go wrong with the gold standard of bass lines. James just strikes the perfect balance of keeping it simple and yet applying beautifully timed flourishes without overplaying. You have to do what's right for the song. I know this has been posted here before, probably more than once. Still always worth hearing again.

william mysterious was a big influence on me. and i seem to recall that this was his first recording on bass -- he was originally a sax player.

Sticking with the classics (for now).
I think Bill Wyman is under-rated. Some of the early Stones recordings didn't do him justice, but when you can hear him he's great. Under My Thumb is a good example. I love how the bass sort of counters against the line on the vibes. Taught me to consider doing stuff like that as an option.
