Took a dump after the first hour. I found out it was a pre amp tube. The online outfit that sold me the amp sent a new set of tubes. They sent 4 jj ecc83-s and two 12at7 grove tubes. The oem tubes that were in the amp were all grove tubes. 2 12at7's a 3 count of ecc83-3's and a odd ball 12ax7-c. What's up with the odd tube? Is it because of the custom channel? Or did they screw up at the factory?

Could be. Where was the odd-ball tube located?

Can't really comment on the odd ball tube, a working 12AX7 should work in any location designed for a 12AX7.

I will say that the GT tubes that come stock in a Fender amp are lower quality IMO the GTs you would buy after market. I would not be surprised to see one fail however unless you reseated all the tubes in their sockets the tube it may have not been a tube failure. It could have been a socket connection.

No worries about the JJ ECC83-S. I like the spiral wound JJs and use them all the time in my amps.

At first a bad hum and that was all the sound I could get. Than I reseated all the tubes after the failure. After reseating The amp tubes it played for a minute then a bad crackling sound and quit.I shut it down till the new tubes arrived. I Replaced the three ecc83s and the one od ball 12ax7-3 with four ecc83-s JJ's. Looking at the chart inside the amp it calls for two 12at7's and four 12ax7a's for the pre amp. The odd ball tube was on the vintage channel. It sounds great with the 4 JJ's so I'll leave it as is.

Little different gain between the 12ax7- Chinese and the ecc83?

Looking at your chart MLC the odd ball was in v5 tremolo socket.

V5/tremolo tube isn't doing much for your overall tone - perfect spot for a lower quality tube.
As long as it works and it's quiet, it's fine for V5.

Oh in regards to the preamp tubes you really do not need to replace all of them only when a specific tube goes bad. Nice of them to send an entire set though.
