Was invited to play at a party. Figured I'd add some flavor by bringing the 12-string. Pulled it out of its case for the first time in at least 8 months....probably longer. 10 of 12 strings were in perfect standard tuning.

Played like a dream, like always. Easily the best guitar quality/cost of all of my guitars.

I have an Seagull S6 Slim. I agree - they are an outstanding value. I am hard pushed to say I like my Martin D35 any better. If it was a blind test I'm not sure which would get my vote, it is that close. In the Seagull's favor is the fact I bought it for $100 at a pawn shop in perfect condition. I've played the hell out of it for over 10 years and it still sounds and plays great.

I have two, both dreads. An anniversary with spruce top and maple back and sides. This one got a Fishman Matrix PU. It is one of best looking acoustics I've seen from any manufacturer. I can't get over how well it is made and I'm impressed every time I pull it from its case. The second is an S6 cedar cutaway with factory e-tronics. A bit beat up when I received it but it serves its purpose. Both are awesome instruments, great players and huge values. The anniversary model is a real cannon.

As you mention both guitars are very stable. The cedar was purchased used for $100 and is my knock around acoustic. The anniversary was a $300 or so CL purchase.

They are superb guitars. I have an S6 cedar and it is the perfect guitar for around the house or the campfire. Great tone and easy to play.

I don't know if this has to do with their wood aging or construction, but I've yet to see a Seagull with a cracked top from drying out. I've seen Gibsons, Martins, Taylors, Gretsch, Ibanez, you name it, with top cracks. Never a Seagull yet.

Cool looking guitar Charlie, although all those strings kind of scare me a little. :)

Affordable 12s can be hit & miss. The Seagull S12 Cedar is a homerun.

My wife has several 12s, including two Seagulls, an early Seagull Model 12 and a S12 Cedar. Fortunately the S12, a pawnshop find, had a nice set-up.

Charlie, do you have the on-board electronics version or just the guitar? I need a new 12-string! (Not!)

jhawkr, apologies. Just saw this.

It has the LR Baggs eq thing on it. Powered by a 9-volt battery. It sounds mighty good either way, acoustic, or amped up. The jack is in the lower strap button, like on my J45.

Thanks Charlie! It will be a while before I buy anything anyway. Maybe in the fall.

I only have one a 2004 S series grand no electronics. I had a Fender Stratacoustic that had electronics yet it didn't sound very good in anything other than a solid state amp. I have a 2012 EL-00 Pro tried it in one of the 2 tube amps I have just sounds like an electric.

I really never needed the electronics yet one the EL-00 you have no choice except the nut is wider so that helps.

Seagulls are made from really old wood so it's likely why the tops don't crack. Back in 2001 when they artist series grand was still around it had a solid top and back not the sides. Now they do offer all solid wood models. Even my 67 J160E was plywood . The only solid wood acoustic I had that I'm aware of was a 67 Gibson 12 string . It was at the time a bit over $400. Wish I still had it. I love 12 strings.
