Go figure.

I've looked through the options on Fender's website for the new Professional Series (which replaces the American Series Strat and Tele), and the options just got LESS for lefties ... again.

Only two colors for Strats - 3-color Sunburst and black (rosewood neck option available on both). Wow. Not even Olympic White? WTH?

Three colors for Teles - Black, 3-color Sunburst and Butterscotch - NO rosewood fingerboard option (hasn't been one for years on the American Standard Tele either).

It's official, if you're a lefty, it SUCKS if you were thinking of buying a new USA Fender. Even in the much maligned CBS/Fender 1970's there were considerably more options for lefty players (including some hardtail models).

JMHO of course...

They're following Gibson.

thankfully Warmoth make what we need and there are some lefty friendly shops doing other builders guitars.

But Fender and Gibson have lost the plot it CBS all over again

In their "Mod Shop" you can build a lefty with a lot more colors and other options (but not the neck or Tele bridge from the new Professional Series), but the final price of a lefty Tele with Rosewood board and Texas Special pickups was $1,699! W/O the TS pickups it was still $1,649... this is ridiculous when you consider that resale on one of these would likely be LESS than a standard (now Professional) series Strat or Tele.

I think Mod Shop prices went up recently, too ... seems like a year ago I could build a Strat or Tele I wanted there for around $1,400.

I agree - Warmoth is a much better option - so many neck profiles to choose from, plus woods, pickup configurations, etc.

I doubt I will buy another new guitar in my lifetime. I continually look for deals on used lefties, though.

I may be in that same boat with you, LHW. My most recent purchase was a used 2012 Martin D-18 ($1400) - beautiful guitar and right now one of my top two...this was an excellent price for a lefty of this particular guitar (Martin redesigned the D-18 in 2012, and these are very highly regarded).

That's why the last 2 guitars I purchased were Carvins. Everything available. Endless options, great price.

Same thing happened when Fender bought Jackson. Before that you could get any USA select guitar made left handed with only a 10% markup. Now choices are very limited and the prices have doubled.

jleftyy,

Yeah, it's very frustrating...Fender is NOT lefty-friendly. Period.
