FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / 2016 Deluxe Nashville Tele - Thoughts?

I decided to purchase the 2016 deluxe nashville tele, as I've recently encountered noise issues in my apartment and playing regular single coils is pretty awful. I wanted to see what other people thought of this guitar, I'm a strat guy but upon hearing the video fender put out I was amazed how sweet and straty the guitar sounded. At any rate, what are y'alls opinions? Purely by the sound of the video I was impressed enough to give it a shot.

Any thoughts? I've played the vintage noiseless pickups before in a strat and I really liked it, likewise I like the MIM tele's, they're generally well made. Anyone had one of these yet? Otherwise maybe I'll let y'all know how mine turns out once it gets here.

If your a strat guy, chances are you'll like it based on its features. Looks and sounds sharp. I'd miss that classic tele bridge/neck position sound but I'm sure it's possible with a wiring mod.

Make sure to report back with a review. Congrats.

Yeah I agree pombrio, I like the middle position on a tele but that's easy enough to mod if I felt like it. Just add a push-pull and look up the wiring diagram to make it work. I'll be sure to post something about it when I get it and give the run-down of how it sounds and plays.

I chicken pick on Teles...a lot...and prefer not having a middle pickup when doing so. YMMV.

^ The OP says he is "a strat guy", so the middle pup shouldn't be a problem.

To the OP: Generally speaking I like the 2016 Nashvilles, especially the color options. I'd go with Fiesta Red/rosewood. The 12" fretboard radius might be an issue for me. I also prefer a little wider nut width than 1.65". The GC website list the frets as "tall narrow" (6105's?). If so that would very likely be a deal breaker for me. If you like these specs, then this Tele should work just fine for you. Enjoy it.

Well I looked up what the difference between standard spec and the nashville tele's nuts were (1.687 vs 1.65) and some people said they felt the difference, others not.

I just looked up the srv guitar's nut width which I now own, and it apparently is 1.65 as well, I never noticed. So I wonder if it would be a problem or not? The difference being the srv neck is les-paul like, where as the tele I assume is like a typical modern c.

So I think I'll stick to what I hear, unfortunately I'll have to wait to feel it because it's back-ordered and none of my local shops have it, but that's okay. The SRV I have doesn't feel narrow at the nut, so I'd assume neither will the tele. I honestly never read the spec so I didn't know. We shall see, I just know that it's a noiseless-singe-coil guitar that sounded killer in a video, and I'm willing to give it a shot, as well I got a stupid good deal on it :)

Any other thoughts? For some reason the guitar is really backordered late, and there's almost no review material of the guitar out there besides a few amateur videos on youtube, no real posts yet. I'm still sticking to my guns on it, but I might go to a guitar store in the mean-while just for kicks.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I got the guitar in today anddddd yeah. I'd say from a feel/look/function perspective it's f*ing great, butttt it doesn't compete next to my SRV strat. That's all. Also in the future if for some reason I wanted a tele, I'd just get a regular 2 pickup tele, I found the 2 & 4 positions weren't necessary. They're fine, but since the guitar sounds like a tele, you still get the tele sound coming through in 2 & 4 and it just sounds weird.

So yeah plain and simple good guitar, but turns out I didn't need it. Likewise it seemed to not be shielded properly, it was really noisy when not touching the strings.

The modern player tele is a sweet guitar. I installed a tele VN in the neck and strat VNs in the middle and bridge. Sure it sounds like a strat but it's a sweet playing and sounding guitar. I am basically a strat person.

That's a bummer NHILL1. A few years ago I took a stab at a G&L ASAT Classic S Alnico guitar. Basically, it's G&L's version of the Fender Nashville Tele. I was hoping it would cover both my tele and strat needs. In the end, it didn't cover either one convincingly so I moved along.

Pombrio;

Yeah I felt the same way, plus the noiseless pickups at least at the stock height didn't sound great. Kind of stale by comparison to the TS's in my SRV. Granted they were set kind of high but still I felt it was kind of a moot point having the middle pickup.

The main reason I got the guitar was for noiseless pickups, but it turns out not one day after I ordered the guitar, the horrible grounding issue plaguing my apartment went away. I had a constant "ticking" noise through my entire apartment, and whatever was causing it was fixed. My guitar's pretty quite now.

But yeah if I don't think I'd buy that guitar again. In fact I don't know if I wanna buy anything besides the reissue guitars, as the SRV strat I have, which is pretty much a modified 62 reissue, is leaps and bounds better. I don't know why but the SRV is just a different animal in terms of sound and feel. Makes me glad I sold off my MIM guitars a couple months ago and bought it.
