I Dare To Be Different

Every once in a while Rickenbacker will offer a one off direct from the factory. Now on eBay is a left handed 330, Amber Montezuma Brown and black trim. This is the very first left handed one off that I've seen.

It appears that most of the one offs are experiments with a finish and/or hardware configuration. For example, a year ago they offered a 1993 Deluxe, with a wider neck, double F holes, no pickguard, and single volume & tone controls and overwound toaster pickups.

Back in the spring they offered a one off 5 string 4001c64 bass in Mint Green and black hardware.

One off's can be mixed bags... since it doesn't conform to any standard model, it's hard to put a street value on what you have.

I'm not crazy about it for that reason; and also because the black trim is just ugly on one of these - what are they thinking? This isn't a heavy metal or shred guitar is it?!

This is a problem when you order a guitar from Martin's Custom Shop, too. As soon as you change a spec (hence ordering from the Custom Shop), it is no longer a D-28 or D-35 or whatever model it may have been based on - it's just a "Custom Shop" Martin - again, hard to market and resell later (if /when necessary).

Very pricey when you consider it could be hard to resell...

Please tell me that at that price it has proper full sweep lefty tone POTs.

If interested, keep it on your eBay watch list to see if it doesn't sell and gets relisted at a lower price. Or contact the seller to see if you reach an agreement on a Buy It Now listing.

Note--As we all know, but it needs to be mentioned, making a deal for a private purchase away from eBay would be breaking eBay rules.

They're not thinking; they're simply building a custom guitar to a customer's spec.

Many "one offs" are precisely that: a custom build.
