FDP Forum / Performer's Corner / Small keyboard rig for live performance?

It's wicked hawt heah

Hello performers - I play guitar in a cover band. We're all over the place repertoire-wise — Dixie Chicks to Motown to Bowie to Bangles to B-52s to Bob Wills. We're a 5-piece - guitar, bass, drums, fiddle and female singer/percussion

Thinking of adding a small keyboard-iPad rig on stage for a few tunes — piano/ organ intros, handclaps, chimes and the like.

Anyone have experience or recommendations with this? Thinking a smallish midi controller and an iPad with appropriate connections and interfaces will do the trick.

I think Apple Mainstage would work well for this. I've never used it personally, but it's designed for live performace. Looks like it's made to be run from a Mac though.

That's really really where I'm from!

I got a budget model Samson Carbon 49 which is designed to use with an ipad. Its got a dedicated slot for the ipad. 49-key velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted keyboard; Compact design, perfect for live performance and studio applications.

Just buy a camera connection kit to hook up your ipad and use the Garageband Keyboard collection to play what you like, pianos, Organs, horns, vintage and modern synths, it's all there. I''ve found this to be the cheapest and easiest solution for live playing.

"use the Garageband Keyboard collection"

Yeah, the keyboard patches in Garageband are pretty good. The guitar amp models not so much.

I have a Korg X-50 that is all plastic with the their flagship Triton engine. Covers everything reasonably well and will not break the bank
