I've been wanting one of the redesigned (2012 and later) Martin D-18's, and a lefty was being offered on the UMGF. $1,400 shipped for a 2012 - seemed like a good deal, so I did it.

Has new pins, updated Waverly tuners and an upgraded case. In near mint condition.

Full report sometime after it arrives Wednesday... hope I can wait that long!

Gee, Mikey you've been on a bit of guitar bender this year how many have you bought 4 or 5? ;)

Sounds like a good deal would be interested in how it compares to the D35

Well, officially, I bought the D-35 in 2015 (50th Annie. of the D-35). And I had ordered a Larrivee in 2015 (I believe) that took nine months to arrive, and then the top was spruce instead of the ordered mahogany, so it went back and I got the J-45. I also got the Ibanez hog top this year - but do we even count a $300 guitar? (LOL).

But in reality, to offset some of these purchases, I sold a Carr Rambler, and we sold our home in August and moved (from Nebraska to Minnesota) and are now living in a church owned parsonage, so we have no outlay for a home currently. The danger is to think I could buy 2 or 3 more... but that would get ridiculous!

However... I am on the lookout for an old(er) Martin gut string or nylon string, like an old 00-18G or 00-16C... one of those should be available for less than the D-18.

What about the squire electric?

Btw it's not like I can talk, this year I received my Matrin D35 and Larrivee - though ordered last year ( that's a good excuse mikey i'm using that)

I also got a Gretsch 6120 and Custom shop 55 strat so that's 4 guitars oops I mean 2 this year

and hate to say it looking at a custom shop tele i'm offloading some excess fishing gear and redundant guitars that I don't use to good homes so I can swing it

BTW, other than the Rickenbacker lap steel I bought last year, it's been over five years since I've purchased a guitar.

My other option is a small bodied Waterloo K14. If I could finger pick, I'd definitely get the K14. I just don't know if it would be conducive to flat picking.

Sounds dangerous for both of you! I know it would be for me!

I've been to Southpaw twice (many years ago). Walked out without buying something both times (but later did buy a Heritage 535 from them).

Also like the Waterloo WL14 - how much will one of those set you back?

That's why I go over to Southpaws just once or twice a year.

"Also like the Waterloo WL14 - how much will one of those set you back?"
The WL14 has a MAP of $1,890, which is 10% off the list price.

I keep looking at those too and think wouldn't mind one of them and then think do I need another acoustic?

LRO, I hear you - I'm finding myself with way too many acoustics! I have at least four I need to sell, and a couple more that aren't really worth anything (worth selling and shipping), but one of those was my first true lefty acoustic, and the sentimental value has kept me from offing it so far...

It is a gorgeous guitar! The mahogany s/b and neck are very nice wood, and the spruce top is very high quality, with the vintage tint (not much darker than my 1 year old D-35, so it doesn't look "fake" dark...).

Sounds great - very woody with nice but not overbearing low E string. The action is pretty high right now - I need to shave off at least 1/16" from the saddle to bring it down to comfortable playing level - then I can give a better review. But I love everything about it. And the seller had upgraded the case to a very nice one...a nice extra.

Also, it's very LIGHT - it feels so much lighter than my D-35 (which has a pickup in it, but still...). very comfortable to hold and play.

I am a happy camper - I think I got a great deal - and even if I decided to sell it, I think I could recoup all my money (but hopefully it's not going anywhere!).

Sorry no pics yet - I'll remedy that someday if I have time... but life is pretty crazy right now (just started a new job Sept. 1).

BTW, I'd be interested in your comparison of the D-18 vs J-45.

Texican - I haven't done a good side by side comparison yet - in part because I want to get the action lowered on the Martin first; the high action is skewing my judgment on it... But I've been planning to and will do that soon and report back.
