I have a new MIM strat with SSS setup. I'd like to swap out the pups. First and foremost, I love Yngwie's sound. Specifically, I love how each note is articulate (punchy and distinct). I've looked into the Seymour Duncan YJM Fury set. Those have really mixed reviews (love/hate). The Dimarzio HS-4/3 combo has more consistently positive reviews. But the complaint about both are they are very low output and unless you have his OD and Marshall setup, you won't come close to his sound. I don't have that setup. Also, I love the Stevie Ray Vaughn blues tones + a warm jazz tone. Is there a SSS setup that could do neoclassical (close to YJM), SVR blues, and clean warm jazz? I like the Hot Noiseless but not sure if they would be suitable. The TX Specials are interesting but him too much. I prefer him cancelling. Any recommendations (please specify which position - bridge, middle, neck). Thanks!!

"unless you have his OD and Marshall setup, you won't come close to his sound."

You hit the nail on the head right there. You already have an SSS Strat. At this point the amp you're using is much more the key to the tone you are seeking.

That said, if you're going to swap pups use the ones that Yngwie uses.

I'll bet Steph Paynes (guitarist of the band Lez Zeppelin) used him-canceling pickups.

Bwaaahahaha!

Okay, sorry, I make joke.

The 'trick' to getting the tones players like Malmsteen and Vaughan get is amp volume. The amp has to be cranked op past 8 on the volume control. A master-volume amp at lower SPLs won't do it.

I installed a SD YJM Fury pickup assembly in a Strat a year or so ago and was amazed at how low output they are. You really have to crank the gain on an amp to get anywhere close to Yngwie's sound. I hated these pups.

His tone is definitely more influenced by the amp than the pups themselves.

Try a set of Fender Hot Noiseless pickups or Hot SCN, etc.
