I only play with myself anyway. If I'm gonna do that, I prefer to play with my

Dinky.

Yay, Dinkys are the future. (mb leaves town)..

Seriously though, FMIC seems to have reached a fork in the road and hitched their wagon to the Jackson, Charvel and the more recent EVH brands.

$200.00 (15%) off and 12 payments no interest. I tried to resist, but finally gave in. American Standard Strat, three color sunburst, rosewood. On its way. :)

I got my 1982 '62AMVRI Strat, bought it new 34 years ago. Great Strat, made in Fullerton, don't need no other.

Is the American Standard the only Strat that is being discontinued?

I don't know what's going on with the AmStandard,
but I see they're not available in Black or Oly White these days (except a Black HSS). Just Wine or Sunburst. That in itself seems very wrong to me...

The choices are getting less and less as the days go by. Remaining stock is being sold and the current "American Standard", as we know it, is being discontinued. It will be interesting to see what they call its replacement.

I think this is a move towards promoting the idea that non USA Fender instruments are of equal quality.

Interesting. Perhaps the MIM Standard will be the only Standard Stratocaster? Time will tell.

Yep, I'm OLD too. When I bought my first strat in '63, I don't recall there being much of a choice (if at all). Mine was a 3-color sunburst.

I was 5 when they came out. When I was a teen there was only one model and a few colors.

I started playing in 63 yet didn't like strats. I liked semi hollow electrics. I can't remember the year I got my first strat any longer. It was some squire with a black painted plywood body maybe 1990. For a short time I had a 1984 american standard that had the Inca Silver rosewood and a rather large route so one could put any set of PU's in it. And yellow 78 with the large peg head and three screw neck. I built my own after I got rid of those in 91 so I have three I built and are my only electric guitars.

I really only play the first one I built it just sounds and plays the best. It has used cheap Ibanez strat PU's in it.

I still have my AS 1988, first USA made Strat I bought. I swapped the original bridge for a post 2008 two point with vintage style saddles but otherwise original. Great guitar. I never understood Fender's reasoning on a lot of things, and again, I'm baffled.

No worries. I'm sure the "new and improved," or "just like vintage late 1990s," or some other such whiz-bang marketing direction will appear shortly.

Hold on to your wallets.

My bet is the major change will be the bottom wheel truss rod adjuster will move to all of the modern spec US guitars.

Somebody above mentioned the replacement name as possibly being "American Select". I assume that is a possibility. They have used that before. I have a 2005 American Select. However, at that time, the "Select" was the highest level above even the Deluxe.

Details are starting to leak out on this model. It's going to be called the "American Professional Series". It looks very similar to the American Standard with notable updates including:

"Deep C" neck profile
"V-Mod" pickups, which apparently will have a blend of A5 and A2 magnets
Volume control has a treble-bleed
Tone 1 on N and M, Tone 2 on B
"Narrow Tall" frets (6105?)
A couple of new colors, Sonic Gray and Antique Olive, to go with the old favorites Black, 3-Color Sunburst, Sienna Sunburst, and Olympic White

Oh, and the truss rod adjuster is where it belongs, at the headstock end. ;)

"Narrow Tall" frets (6105?)

That would be a deal breaker for me.
