I got an e-mail from the Stratosphere announcing that American Standard Strats are going to be discontinued. I know that the Deluxe was discontinued. Anybody got more info?

It is probably more accurate to say that the American Deluxe series was renamed to the American Elite series. They're still the high-end U.S. made guitars with the same features. Perhaps they're going to do the same with the American Standard line.

I heard something like the "American Pro" series or some similar sounding name will replace the American Standard series. I don't know whether it is accurate or not.

IMO, Fender should always keep the AmStd line in production as a baseline product. Go ahead and mess around with the others, but leave the American Standards alone!

Probably the sign on the wall in the shop at Fender in 1954! Not much has changed.

+1. Didn't work when American Standards were renamed American Series, eventually went back to the AmStd naming convention.

Is it to with the American Standard brand toilets? ;-)

My local dealer confirmed this to me today. You've probably seen by now dealers dropping the price $200 on existing stock (or at least on some of it).

Could be a good time to pick up a bargain.

I can't imagine what name they will think up to replace "American Standard". What used to be the American "Deluxe" is now the "Elite" and the new "Deluxe" is made in Mexico. How can you not have a Standard?????

I think it might be American Select, but I'm not sure.

I have the feeling that other than the series name there will be few changes.

The only changes I could see that could be "improved" are maybe a compound radius neck, contoured neck heel and locking tuners. Pickups are always debatable depending on each player's preference.

I'm OK with it as long as it doesn't push the price way up which we know is a bad thing. We all saw what happened with a big brand competitor last year and how the buying public responded.

"I have the feeling that other than the series name there will be few changes."

Yeah...like since 1954. LOL.

Can't imagine they would do all those other upgrades at the risk of endangering the entry-level price for their American made guitars. Tweaks, sure. Major product enhancement. Doubtful, as that would jeopardize the other more expensive models' appeal.

Just an opinion, of course...

The American Standard was called the "American Series" for a period of time, in think in the late 90's or early 2000's.

Yup. And before that they were again called American Standards then, too. I've got one of those.
