Looks like a auditorium sized Martin,
with Sitka top and HPL back/sides,
for under $600!

Just wondering what the talk on the street is...

use your FDP portal if you're gonna buy it...

I don't have this, but I do have a Martin DX1, which has the Stratabond (multi-ply birch laminate) neck and HPL (High Pressure Laminate) back and sides. I had to do some "Harumph!"-ing about my indignation and preconceived notions about what an acoustic guitar, especially a Martin should be, but once I decided to let my ears be the judge, it was a no-brainer. It's an beautiful sounding guitar a US Made (2002) Martin that I was able to buy used with a hardshell SKB case for $275. Would I rather have a D-18, D-28, D-35, etc? Sure! Let me know where I can get one for $275, and I'm all over it!

As "old" tone woods get harder to procure it is nice that they can make some well sounding instruments with the engineered woods. I like real wood as much as anyone else- but it's great to have options at all price points.

I have the fully-acoustic 0001X version of this guitar. I don't remember if I ever learned the age of the instrument but it was made in America, before they moved production to Mexico.

It's the perfect size for playing comfortably while sitting on a couch.

The stratabond neck is very stable however it looks a little weird. The fingerboard is a synthetic material but it feels good to me. The HPL body is incredibly strong so I don't worry about nicks and cracks at all. The spruce top is actually very nice with a little bearclaw in it.

Most of all, it sounds pretty good. I keep mine strung with Martin silk and steel strings because I like the mellow sound they produce for fingerpicking and light strumming. Consequently, it doesn't produce a lot of sound. But I have other guitars for that.

I have a few older Takamines that I really like but I try some of the "X" models at Guitar Center. For the money, I don't think you can beat these guitars. I would probably buy the dreadnaught size if I did buy one. I don't play enough to justify many more guitars.
