Anyone have any experience with this brand? Seems to be a bit on the boutique side. There's one being offered locally for $200, originally $550. One twelve and a tweeter. I may have to try it out.

Thanks, Jack

I had an interest in these cabs about 14 years ago. Unfortunately I couldn't find any documentation on whether I actually had one. (I went thru a lot back then !!!)Sorry!

Just after my first post I did a little digging. Sounds like folks saw these cabinets are all that, but if you're looking for one only purchase used as the company/owner is portrayed as a less than honest businessman. Hopefully I'll get to check out the one listed locally later today.

Essentially this is a TL Box. Many companies make cabs built on these specs. Some sound great, some don't. I've never heard bad reports on Dr Bass cabs. For $200, it's worth checking out.

The builds don't look anything like TL boxes. I'm sure the boxes are tuned to the speakers used.

EV TL boxes (I've built and still use a bunch) are a bit long in the tooth, as bass drivers have evolved way beyond those EV drivers these were designed for. Modern drivers have higher Xmas (excursion) and higher power handling.

My current rig uses modified TL cabinets. My top cabinet looks a bit like the Dr Bass DRB 1560v only with TL porting and a 12" bass driver.

I've had a couple of TL designs years ago...this isn't a TL design, but it sure is sweet! After 15 minutes of playing it I offered $180 which was accepted! I'm pretty stoked. It has a very robust sound to it, very tight and punchy even on a low B five string.

Interestingly, the seller told me he was the original owner and he had a very difficult time getting Dr. Bass to hold up their end of the deal, this after paying for it up front. This echos the exact type of scenario I came across when searching for info.

I played an RX212, which was their lower end 2 x 12 cabinet, for many years as both a primary and extension cabinet.I think I bought mine for $200 used and got several times that in value out of it. Very nice, neutral sounding cabinet. Had emminence deltas in it. I recently sold it, but I can recommend this particular cabinet. Regarding the company and it's business dealings, refer to Google or the other popular bass forum.

JackL & Steve,

Sorry for suggesting that this could have it's roots in a TL box design. Unless you have the EV plans & build it exactly to those specs, I suppose everyone's 1-12 cab is some bastard stepchild?

Glad you got the cab for $180. More importantly, that you like it, 100% TL or not.

PSA:

I have owned two stock cabinets and also had Marc Serio (Dr. bASS) custom make one for me. The cabinets were all very good, but as previously mentioned ONLY BUY A USED ONE, and NOT from Dr. bASS himself. There is a pretty extensive thread on that site where they talk about bass, it is stickied at the top of the amps forum, a must read for anyone looking to buy a new one from him.
