I found this Squier Strat today, cheap. MIM, 1997 and almost unplayed. No fret wear, no buckle rash and no smudges. My have the original strings on it. Dark red in color with white pickguard and rosewood neck. I wasn't in the market as I had a garage sale this weekend to get rid of stuff but this one will probably be turned pretty quickly. After new strings it will be ready to go. Extra clean.

I have a '98 from the same line, it was my only guitar for years and it did the job admirably.

I've got a 1996 MIM Squire.

Same color and neck as yours.

This belonged to a close lady friends boyfriend that passed. She thought Johnny would want me to have his guitar.

I didn't touch it for years, wasn't impressed with the electronics, nor playability, so decided to do something about it.

Replaced the pickguard for a pearl one, added Bill Lawrence L45S twin blades in neck and middle and an L90 in the bridge.

New tuners and knurled control knobs.

Replaced the bridge with a Callaham unit, did neckwork and a fret level / dress and a good setup.

That guitar now plays and sounds like a dream.

One more pic added. After new strings and a proper setup, this thing is a really solid guitar. Pickguard assembly done in July 1996.

I can't see the pic and I don't know why it comes out like this with just a tiny icon. Maybe you can figure out how to open it.

Your opinion seems to have evolved since your OP ;^)

In your photo description you wrote "Only bad thing is, it's a Squier."

Granted there good & bad years for Squiers, but that;s true of Fenders and other big brands.

And true, it won't fetch as much as a Fender, but people that are put off simply because it says Squier on it, don't know what they're talking about imo.

Something tells me no matter what you sell it for, you'll come out on top!

Owner of 4 Squiers
