I had a similar experience to RicOkc: a really well built black, double bound 62 custom reissue Tele with a rosewood neck but had to change the pickups as the stock ones squealed at high gain and high volume. With some Seymour Duncan Alnico pro 2s it was probably the best Tele I've had. I changed the pots, caps, jack socket, selector switch and wiring too, as it all seemed s bit flimsy. I've seen other MIJ Fenders with US pickups, usually Texas Specials, as stock: I had one of the Strats, a 71 reissue, and that was great without any mods.

I had a CIJ '62 Tele Custom and it was a great guitar. Tony, you should remember it. However, in a moment of weakness I sold it to finance another guitar.

BTW, my Tele was heavily modded; CS '51 Nocaster pups, a Callahan Vintage T bridge, CTS pots, and a Switchcraft jack.

Oh crap, did I miss a step carrying it downstairs? ***funny, and not funny***

IIRC that's the guitar I held for a group photo at the first FDP Jam that I attended. I was too nervous to bring one of my (cheap) guitars, or I chose to leave it in the car with the amp that I did bring.
