Do you consider Japanese guitars(Fender) a good value?( ) I mean, are they comparable in price to the MIM'S? Particularly after including shipping?

A good value? Yes.

Comparable in price? I found the MIJ pricier than the MIM.

One of the best tele's I ever played (Richie Kotzen) was a MIJ. Great quality instrument.

I have no clue as to shipping costs, sorry.

My nearly worthless post...

The shipping prices from Japan that I've seen on eBay range from around $90.00 to $130.00.

I think Japanese made Fenders are better than MIM. I have a few MIJ Fenders and they seems as good as made in USA ones.

...and the MIJ Teles and Strats often are better quality than their MIA equivalents.

Most Gretsch guitars are MIJ, only the custom shop models are made here. I think Fender MIJ guitars have a great rep and a long history of quality.

My MIJ is about a ten plus year old Aerodyne Telecaster.

I've changed out the pickups once again since the picture below, I've got a Lollar Special T in the bridge and a Lollar P90 in the neck.

A great combination.

I like the cutaway on the back, just like a Strat and the pickup selector switch up where a Les Paul locates theirs.

The 7 1/4 radius isn't too bad, got watch those extreme bends though.

the workmanship on this instrument was top notch, though they did use the small puts and less that robust output jack.

My Aerodyne.

I used to have a Kotzen MIJ Tele, I have to agree with Sandbagger. It was an extremely nice guitar and better build quality than my MIA Burton Tele.

The only reason I sold it was the neck was just too big.

My Fernandes LE-2 stratocopy MIJ is an amazingly good guitar. Some people say it's pretty much a Fender MIJ strat without the Fender marks & headstock.

Fortunately mine came from a pawn shop in League City, TX that didn't know what they had.

To keep this on topic...I'd love to have the matching Fernandes telecopy.

I replaced the pots, switch, jack & pick-ups on my MIJ '62 Custom Tele to CTS,CRL,Switchcraft,Orange Drop .022 cap & Seymour Duncan pups.

It originally had the small pots and the pick-ups were dark sounding. The neck on it reminded me of my '66 Tele I had for years.

The fit & finish are top notch, it's a guitar I have the intentions of keeping for years.

Well, to make a long story short. I bought 1 thru the FDP's Amazon link.
It's red w/ dbl binding (reason I got it) and a rosewood fretboard. Don't know about the electronic yet.......

Not to hijack my own thread, but what routing do they have underneath?

Link?

I ask because I went to Amazon via the FDP link, but there are **many** Telecasters listed.

I think this is probably the guitar that Malcolm has purchased. It fits his description, anyway...

Yep,that's the one! Almost a month in shipping.

Fender made me buy it! If they'd had a Nashville with binding in Fiest Red, that's what I REALLY wanted.

If your new CAR MIJ Custom Tele is like mine, it has the typical standard Tele routing (small triangular neck pickup route with the larger bridge pickup routing covered by the bridge plate). If you are thinking of going "Nashville" you'll have to do some routing.
