I've become quite interested in these lately. I've heard many good things online about 'em, but a few more testimonials would be welcome. They are quite expensive, I know. I recently saw Arlo Guthrie at a small venue, and he played a couple of songs on one. It sounded great, and as a bonus, it looked beautiful.

Rainsong guitars have been discussed quite a bit in the past (see link).

Member Kego has (had?) one, a dreadnought model IIRC. He brought it to an acoustic jam, and it's distinctive sound could be heard even when he was playing with three other players playing traditional wood acoustics. In a good way.

I'd love to find a Rainsong 12s model for a good price to surprise my wife.

"...I recently saw Arlo Guthrie at a small venue, and he played a couple of songs on one. It sounded great, and as a bonus, it looked beautiful."

Was it a Rainsong? The reason I ask is:

After I posted I searched for Rainsong 12s guitar. One thing that showed up was Arlo playing CA (Composite Acoustics) 12s. But that's not to say he doesn't play a Rainsong.

Ah ha!! I found images of him playing Rainsong and CA.

I have two and love them. I'm primary a bass player but dabble in guitar.

One is a six string - a special version of their 12 fret Shorty model with their traditional cosmetics instead of the more stripped down Shorty appearance. It's a great, intimate fingerstyle guitar.

The other is a twelve, a WS3000. Sadly they discontinued the twelves a few years ago because of the way the necks were made became obsolete for their production process. Hopefully they will develop a new 12 string neck some day because CF makes for an amazing, shimmery twelve.

I can't justify it but if I ever win the lottery I'm going to find one of their jumbo bodies with the "black ice" patchwork top. Yum!

LMK if you have specific questions and I'll try to help.

The one I have is either the WS1000N2 or the OM1000N2 (can't remember which, and it's not handy at the moment). At any rate, it's not a dred, but rather one of their smaller bodied cutaways. It sounds very piano-like, and is loud - especially for it's size.

I want to find a used Rainsong Dred, I've played a few and they are absolute *CANNONS*. They definitely sound a little different than a pre-war Martin, but for fireside jamming it doesn't get any better, and they ain't bad for recording either!

Recorded using my Rainsong...

Thanks! I recorded that the day after I bought the Rainsong. Two one-take tracks: one rhythm and one lead. Might be the only time that ever happens to me...lol

No, but I did see a CD listed on the SoundClick site.

Very odd. This thread popped up but when I view it there's no page two and the most recent post visible is Tony's from 8/23/16. Maybe posting another will cause the second page to pop up? Let's give it a try...

(Edit) Nope. There's at least one missing post.

^There was a cleanup on aisle 6. You'll see it in a few other threads. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I'm considering a local used/nr mint Composite Acoustics OX in Carbon Burst w/ a Fishman Element pup for sale. Can anyone comment on quality differences between Rainsong and CA offerings? I understand Peavey Corp bought CA a while back. Is one considered significantly better than the other?

I can't speak for all of them, but so far all the CA's I've played have been really heavy. My Rainsong is pretty light. I'm not a fan of the small CA's tone...ymmv, etc.
