I have to say Yes for my band. We are a bunch of old guys and we play country, country-rock and a few bluegrass songs. One particular guy always comes up with these songs that are off the wall, hard to dance to and never were popular. They are hard to get through for me.
Any takers regarding your band?

Yup, there are several songs that I don't like to listen to but I enjoy playing them. I learned a long time ago that the show isn't for me, it's for the audience. I can find enjoyment in playing just about any song.

I say yes, though I don't play in bands much anymore. Being a died-in-the-wool prog rocker i was never much into much dance music. I bailed on the cover band thing a couple decades ago because I got really tired of playing a lot of the same songs I learned when I was in my 20's. It's sad to say that most of them were better than the new ones.

Sad to say, but having played "Sweet Home Alabama" 3 times a week, for the last nine years, it's no longer one of my favourite songs. ;-)

I also grit my teeth to "Crossroads", "Call me the Breeze" and used to hate playing "Won't Get Fooled Again". :-(

Never been in a band where I liked all of the repetroire. Heck, that includes an original band where I wrote everything.

How do you think Skynyrd feels about playing it? They've been playing it for over 40 years. Lol

Ha, I remember Steve Tyler saying he was sick of playing "Dream On" and that was probably the early '80's ;-)

A band is all about getting along with 2-6 other people. The chances are about nil that any one member will like every song.

My opinion is that members of a cover band should not have to play songs they don’t like. Everyone in our band likes songs that someone else doesn't; but there are plenty of songs that we all like. Things are so much easier when we stick to points of agreement.

Back in my band days I played lots of tunes I never cared for. I usually went into the reviled tune kicking and screaming (internally).

However! Every last one of the tunes I disliked has at least *one* thing I had yet to stick in my guitar bag.

So even though a song may have sucked cold buttcoffee--I still learned a thing or two from the experience, and I used that new lick/riff/trick somewhere else to spice up my repper-toyer.

Good point Peegoo, and something else that I have also learned from playing songs that are not my favorites.

I guess what I meant on my original post was regarding songs that "just don't fit".

Yeah, there's always more that I dislike than I like. Whether they fit, or not.
