I love my DRRI for how chimey and clean it is and also how well it takes pedals. Besides just being louder, what difference would I hear between the two, whether clean or with pedals? Is the BDRI like a Tweed Deluxe on steroids? Or can it get to a similar clean/chime as the DRRI?

Have you compared it to the Fender Deluxe Vintage Modified?

The Blues Deluxe and DRRI don't sound anything alike to me.

Ive had both and presently have the drri. It has been a long time since I sold the BDRI so my memory is not fresh. If memory serves me the clean was decent . More midrangey than the drri which is more mid scooped. The OD on the BDRI was a tad muddy for my tastes and the it had more bottom end than the drri, but it could be loose when cranked.
The drri was more chimey and lush . To my ears it had more depth than the BDRI. The reverb of the drri was outstanding , the reverb of the BDRI not so much.
The BDRI is a decent amp , but there is a reason thr DRRI is so popular. Hope this helps. They really are totally different amps.

I prefer the clean channel on the BD (haven't heard a RI), and generally prefer 6L6 amps as a pedal platform over 6V6 for headroom.

But you won't get one or the other with the other.

Studio use I could take either, but if I was playing live, I'd want the higher wattage and headroom of the BD.

The reason I'm asking is there is a used one available for a pretty good price. I don't need it, but....

They're damn nice amps, if the BDRI had been available at the time I'd have probably bought it over the HRD (which I'm happy with, but it's one of the older ones with the Emis versus the modern Celestions).

These days I'd get a BDRI in a heartbeat - speaker is right, amp is right as a pedal platform, and used responsibly, the OD channel on the BD will get you to very acceptable places.

As much as I like the meltdown on crack of the old HRDs, I get that it's not a useful sound for most people in the gain channel.

I'm also looking to downsize one of my amps and looking at a BDRI. How would the volume and headroom compare to a Moyer modded CVR?

I own both amps.

They're two completely different animals, in my opinion....

To my ear, the Blues Deluxe Reissue = Way Old School Fender Creamy Dark, Brown/Tweed Tone.

The DRRI = Classic Fender 60's Blackface Chime..

6L6 = bottom end whomp
6V6 = glassy chime

Apples & oranges. One of each is the solution!

I would love at 65 Deluxe Reverb RI as my next amp.
