I smoked the 8" speakers that were in my 2x8 X 2x10 Bandmaster cab...one was a vintage Rola and the other was a Heppner.....not bad speakers overall..they sounded good but I torque'd em a bit too much...;-0

So i took a gamble on the Weber 8F150's with the H dustcap...25 watt....and paired them up with 2 vintage Jensen C10Q's..in the hope that they would improve the bottom and tame the top..

and boy did they!...
Now the amp is louder, punchier, more headroom, bigger, tighter bass and a more controlled treble..

its a great combination....better than I would have expected...
tone heaven!

I'll try to get a picture up soon...

I'm a fan of all speaker sizes because they all have real uses.

Something that many players don't think about is sizing the speaker to the room. I've proven this to myself over the years and it really works.

Playing a small room (like a jam space or basement) with a 1x6 Fender Champ gets you a much better guitar tome than you can get with a 1x12 Deluxe Reverb. The 12 in the DR puts too much 'woof' into a little room; the bass player has to turn up to retain definition, and the drummer has to kick harder. The PA has to come up too.

The little Champ cuts through like a hot knife through butter because it's not competing for the same sonic space as the bass and drums. Volume levels are easier to moderate, and everyone can easily hear everyone else.

Same goes for a medium-size room. A 1x10 Princeton or the 1x12 DR will sound way better than any 2x12 or 4x12 rig.

This can be really hard to believe until you actually try it a few times.

My current grab-n-go jam amp is a 1x8" Quilter Aviator. It's about the size of a Fender Champ and it kicks major booty.

Here's a tone comparison, but with the larger cab.

I found 4 heavy duty 8" speakers in an older organ and built myself a 4-8 cab. It worked out very nice. My goto speaker has always been a 12" but I also like 10's. If they produce sound, I like 'em.

Well stated sir....
I listened to the demo...While I would say that I preferred the tone of the Super, the Quilter has nothing to be ashamed of....that sucker sounds pretty sweet and I'll bet its a lot easier to lug around...;-0..

Some of the comments from the tone snobs I think are a bit biased...but that is how we all roll...lol.

I think a 4x8 cab would sound awesome... might have to experiment with the right head tho...my Cage 18 watt head sounds killer through a 2x12 cab with Webers, but sounds so so through a 2x10 cab with Webers...go figure...

anway... I'm sold on the 8's they rock out for sure..the sort of make up for what the Jensen's lack.. it turned out to be a good marriage.

I thought I posted this in Amp mods....move if need be...
