So when my Larrivee custom order fell through last week, we called Gibson to see if they had a lefty J-45 in stock (since that was sort of the feel and tone I was going for with the Larrivee custom in all hog).

They did, it shipped and arrived here Tuesday/ yesterday! Fortunately I was in Omaha and was able to pick it up literally a half hour after it was dropped off.

I give a full review in the Unplugged forum (link below) and there are a few pics in my profile...

...I'll just say here, WOW. I'm glad I did this. This guitar has impressed/amazed/floored me already, and it's brand new!

I compared it back and forth with my one year old Martin D-35, and if I had to choose, this J-45 would be staying!

If this is a trend at Gibson, they're moving in the right (left?) direction - this guitar is already amazing sounding - it almost scares me... is it because it's built so light, and it'll need a neck set in five years? I hope not, but I can't imagine how much better this thing could sound over the years as it opens up - it's already giving up lots of volume and beautiful tone!

Sweet looking guitar. and the way you described it sounds just as good as it looks!

Mikey, on the other thread, I stated that we some day we should get together and compare your J-45 to my J-45 Rosewood. However, someone else reminded me that would actually be like comparing a Martin D-18 to a D-28.

Congratulations on your new acquisition.

LeftRightOut, who knows, a trip "Down Under" is on my bucket list. I have one family friend who lives in Maroubra.

Also have friends in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Auckland, who I've jammed with a dozen or so times over the years. The jams have always be here in the states and they've been busting my chops that it's my turn to go "Down Under." :^)

Looks like a beautiful place, LeftRightOut, I'm somewhat jealous!

So, it's winter there now - what's the weather like?

Yikes, that sounds nice.

I'm moving to (southern) Minnesota in two weeks - winters there will be a little ... cooler.

Sweet guitar, reverend mikey! Nothing beats a great sounding J-45. I had a left handed one a few years ago, but had to sell it during the recession to pay my property taxes (I was laid off three times from 2009-2015, and went through a divorce.)
I hope you enjoy it for years to come!

Thanks, LHW - I am still enjoying it, it's definitely a good one! I plan to keep it for a very long time (assuming I don't hit hard times like you mentioned).

I went through a short period last year without a guitar. I have slowly started rebuilding my collection, although it will never be like my past one.
I now have a Gibson Les Paul 70's Tribute and a Gibson SGJ, along with a cheap Ibanez acoustic/electric.
