FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Stratocasters / Unusual CIJ Strat -ST70- Anyone seen these before?

Hi All, I'm new here and wondering, has anyone seen one of these before? (see link)
I've just bought one EXACTLY like this here in Australia (though a lot cheaper). Mine was advertised as a 2002-2004 based on its CIJ Q+6 digit serial, and I assumed it was a 62RI because of the headstock, logo & truss-rod combination. I figured it had just been re-finished back to natural. But now I've seen this one for sale in the UK I'm confused... If we assume the strat in the link isn't a fake, I'm wondering why I can't find reference to this model (or the same colour/neck combo) in any 1993/94 or 2002-04 Fender Japan catalogs?
FWIW, the one I just bought (which I haven't received yet) has a serial number very close to the eBay listed one, plus the same h/ware, scratch plate, neck profile, neck plate, body timber and style of CIJ/SN font.
The neck and body stamps on mine aren't any help- just "4-13" on the neck base and in one of the pickup cavities...and nothing stamped on the neck pocket. The body routing looks legit' CIJ though.
So basically, I'm wondering if I just bought one of the mysterious pre-1997 CIJ's, or if this eBay listing has the wrong date, or (shudder) are they both imposters? Has anyone here ever heard of a CIJ (or MIJ) ST70 strat?
Any info or insights much appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Hmmm... can't seem to get the link to work (and I have read the FAQ). If you're interested, search ebay for "FENDER CIJ 93/94 STRATOCASTER,ST-70", it should be the only hit you get. It's listed for GBP749.99.

The link works for me. I don't recall seeing this model of MIJ Strat before, but it looks nice.

I'm not a fan of ash bodies, but that's just a matter of personal taste. I own one Strat with an ash body and it has a very bright tone.

The link is weird. I don't see any close-ups of the front of the headstock. I am also unaware of satin bodies being much of a thing before the Highway 1s in 2003.

I've never heard of this model but I like this one, assuming that it is in fact authentic.

The wood looks like Sen (Japanese Ash).

4-13 code, and neck and cavity placement strongly suggests Tokai Gakki manufacture.

I've seen Tokai's with ST-70 as a model number. They're very uncommon and aren't a 62ri style. They have a "ungraded" style bridge like Fender used right before CBS sold the company....can't remember what the style of that bridge was called, but it's not the Freeflyte. The "Strat" had a similar style if I'm remembering correctly.
I don't think the paper with ST-70 is related to the guitar. I'm viewing them on my phone, but I can't see anything that says Fender on it in the pictures on -that- piece of paper.
Anyone read Japanese?

ST is the designation of a Fender Japan Strat.

70 refers to a price of approximately 70,000 yen new.

Sometimes there is another two digit number before the 70 for vintage reissues; ie ST 62-70.

I suspect that an ST70 Strat would be a standard model in the 70,000 price bracket.
