I want to replace the sloppy pick up selector switch in my 5420. Can anyone advise if I can use a generic Switchcraft switch and will the stock Gretsch selector knob be used on the Switchcraft?.

If it's an Electromatic, chances are good the switch bat has metric threads.

Switchcraft switches have SAE threads, which means the switch knob from the original switch won't work on the new switch.

What I've done in situations like this is drill out the switch knob and tap it to fit the Switchcraft's bat. Gretsch E-matic switch knobs are aluminum, which is soft and dead easy to drill and tap.

I ordered a Switchcraft P/U switch from TV Jones with the Gretsch switch knob that fits the switch.
