Just seen a post on another forum about that most see through colors on stratocasters fromm the period 1968-71 are made with a one pice veneer on top of a three to four piece body?? This is news to me?? Anyone who knows if this is true.

If I recall correctly this topic was ultimately banned from the FDP many years ago after countless hours of back and forth nothingness.

No pics here. I think the veneer discussion extended to even later models but I was never sure which guitars had veneers. I know my special edition Guitar Center 62 RI Tele Custom has an alder body (assumed to be three piece) and flamed maple veneer front and back. She's a beaut!

no veneer on these. never seen one, never heard of such a thing and these are my favorite guitars.

I've seen plywood copies but they were so poorly done, there would be no question or interest in them. I really doubt Fender made and Strats with a veneer back in the late 69's.

if your guitar has the back tummy cut all colored in it has veneer. if the sunburst looks normal (inch or so wide all around) it does not have veneer. was used to control the raised grain on the alder bodies.
