Why do I keep fixing things that work?

You need to supply a lot more information to be of any assistance. Numbers, pictures of everything.
Say what you will, but that is all you've done.

A real indicator is the pickup switch. They originally came with 3-way but I can bet that has been changed out by now if it is a real '68. Next is probably the weight of the body and the depth of "Comfort Contours". If it is under 7 pounds, a strong possibility of a late 60s Strat.

Oh, and not forgetting the dating on the heel of the neck if you can take it apart for inspection.

Let's see...for our American friends, that would be roughly $60 stateside. Was this a transaction completed at gunpoint or some other life-threatening act of coercion? Seems unlikely unless some druggie was looking to off something for a fix.

You couldn't buy a trashed Squire for that.

If this is true, shame on you; the owe the owner a decent price for their guitar.

'Nuff said.

Thanks
Serial number 220010.
Don't really want to take it apart .
It has a five way switch. Also as I've been looking, it seems to have kluson tuners without writing on the back of them.inteenet says these were from 1957.
I did a swap for a guitar that stood me at £45. I made the deal over the phone thinking it was a basic fender from Korea .
How do I put pics on this site . I will take pics from every angle and weigh it this morning. It does seem to be under 5kg when holding it. I've played it and it sounds so full and sweet . More so than I've heard for s long time.it has only one string tensioner peg on large headstock for E and B string (broke E string last night) :(

Have had neck off now and had 14 Sep 68 on ink on end of neck. Also in body cavity is some snugged writing I can't make out but looks like . USA with 1968 above it. Got lots of pics now it had older version tuners on and the bridge doesn't have pat pend on them just fender fender stamps . Wondering if these have been changed at some point.

You can either be a contributing member to the FDP and upload images directly, or you can put a link in your post to another photo-sharing site.

FWIW...5Kg is approximately 11 lbs. for those of us on this side of the pond. That would be a boat anchor by any standard. Considerably heavier than even a heavy Les Paul.

Hi I did weigh it and it's just under or near on 6 .5 pounds.
I have had the neck off again and it doesn't have a truss rod !!!! Just what looks like a tube lining and NO screw ?
Have read on a site that at some point somebody called mark kendricks put out some of these from custom shop?
I've not opened up the body yet but it had ink marked 14 Sep 65 or 68 on base of neck. I couldn't make it out properly so gave it a gentle rub and it rubbed off but I think it was 68. Also on neck cavity there is some snugged markings . Didn't touch them but am going to have a good look this time and also look for any router and a star mark someone mentioned from s clamp during build process. I'm not so excited anymore but it's going into local dealers on Friday for an inspection by a guru.

Mark Kendricks is indeed one of the builders in the Fender Custom Shop. But it didn't exist in the 1960s. The Fender Custom Shop began operating in the late 1980s.

I know but am wondering if somebody had a neck replacement . S mate has found out that kendrick only used rosewood but someone by the name of warmth used maple so maybe that's where the change came. In any case it's not original but it sounds amazing so am very pleased.

A 68 Strat would have the code '22 Sep 68'... then a letter A,B, or C (most commonly B). 22 is the code for Stratocaster during that period. 14 would be the neck code for a Coronado 12. The first part of a neck stamp is not the day of the month as is often thought. You mention ink- is it ink stamped or handwritten? It would be a stamp during this period and would not run off with your finger.

A Masterbuilt neck marking would usually be of the actual year it was made, not the year the guitar was modelled after. Some contain both but I've never seen just the year that it's reissued from.

Why don't you upload the photos to photobucket or something?
