FDP Forum / Fender Bass Guitars and Bass Amps / accidental dead spot remedy

Jun 24th, 2016 11:40 PM   Edit   Profile   Print Topic   Search Topic

i've got a japanese fender jag bass that i like quite a bit, but it had a strange string buzz on one string that was vexing me. it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't right.

someone gave me a gotoh 201b bridge, and i figured i'd install it and see if it helped. it's noticeably bigger than the stock bridge, so i couldn't get the action quite as low as i wanted. i ended up shimming the neck, and now it's good.

there's still just a hint of a buzz, but i noticed that the fifth fret g-string dead spot that fenders seem to have is gone. not shifted a fret or two, but gone.

i will gladly trade that dead spot for a buzz that probably no one but me will notice.

Glad you were able to stop the dreaded dead spot.
If you use a straight edge, you may find that you have a high fret.
Depending on what the cause is and who is fixing it, there can be different ways of curing that.
The importatnt thing is that it is fixable and not a huge deal.
