I only switched from playing guitar to playing bass exclusively a couple years ago. I don't slap (arthritis in my thumb makes it too painful) and don't play with a pick, so all my playing is finger-style.

Just noticed the other day I've developed these bulging muscles on the palm of my right hand. It's not painful, inflamed or swollen or anything, just noticeably more muscular than my fretting hand. (And, no: I haven't grown hair on my palms on gone blind).

Is this pretty much standard, or am I some sort of freak of nature?

I play primarily with my index finger. No huge palm muscles here. My knuckles are getting big, but that's an arthritis issue. Still can play with my thumb though.

I play as you do, and have pretty much my whole life at least 50 years of it. No budging muscles, left and right hand look similar.

Nope. Never noticed that sort of issue.

Yeah that's weird. I've been playing for about 45 years and sometimes I dig pretty hard. Never been any noticeable change or even swelling.
