Nice job Larry.

If you're really getting into recording, I would highly recommend getting a decent large diaphragm condenser mike. While an SM57 will "work" on just about any sound source, a good mike will really make that Martin come alive and give your recordings a more polished sound.

Recording is a slippery slope. 10 years ago all I had was a small Yamaha USB mixer and an MXL mike. Since that time my interest has grown to a degree in music production and thousands of dollars in recording equipment. It's gotten to the point I have to sneak new stuff in the house to keep my wife from seeing it. (just kidding)

Thanks Juice.

I totally get what you are saying about a better mic. I figured this out by experimenting by just moving the equipment around. I was surprised how much of a difference that made.

So now I have an AKG 48v condenser. I'm looking at a good boom stand and a decent set of monitors.

I'm limited though. I do this in my condo late at night when I'm bored. I found out that a good mic will pick up all the ambient room noise that we ignore. So my noise floor has the air conditioner and street noise outside my balcony.

I don't have a solution for that short of buying a new house. But I will admit I'm thinking on it...

I can see where that would be a problem Larry. It's amazing the stuff a mike will pick up that you can't normally hear. I can hear people talking when they walk down the street outside my house with the headphones on.

Fortunately, I don't live in an apartment, but I still have to pick and choose when I'm going to lay down some tracks. Early in the morning or late at night is the best time and I turn the AC up about 5 degrees before I start so it won't come on in the middle of a track.
