FDP Forum / Fender Custom Shop / Reverse slant bridge pickup on a right handed guitar

May 16th, 2016 10:43 PM   Edit   Profile

Hi everyone, I have a question about a custom shop order.

I want to have a right handed body (no upside down guitar for me) but I want the bridge pickup to have the reverse slant direction.

So, can the custom shop route out just the bridge pickup slot in the reverse direction or do they need to cut out a swimming pool worth of wood?

too many guitars and not enough hands

They can do a reverse route but it would be a master built guitar with the masterbuilt premium price.

I guess I will be getting my very first masterbuilt guitar!

Thanks for the reply

I put my request in to fender...they said they are checking to see if it can be done because there are artists names involved...Hendrix, trower, srv etc.

hmm...seems like some of my requests may be stepping on some big toes.

we'll see.

Just get it routed like a standard American Strat is these days...no big deal. Those have a small rectangular rout for both bridge and neck pups and a standard slot for the middle pup (NOT a universal rout). That way, all you have to worry about is a different pickguard. Paying a Masterbuilt price for a small adjustment like that is using a sledge hammer as a fly swatter.

yes, that will be an option if it gets to that.

My last teambuilt cost me 4k...my friend got a masterbuilt for around 5k.

I might take the plunge just to say I have a masterbuilt guitar

That's a different issue entirely. If what you want is a showpiece with bragging rights, then Masterbuilt is certainly an option. It may, or may not, actually be a better guitar. Too many variables to be sure...mojo being the elusive thing it is...

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a masterbuilt.

Its going to take 8-14 months to complete. Tomorrow Fender is letting me know which masterbuilder will take my project. They said its between John Cruz, Dennis Galuszka, and Greg Fessler.

They quoted my price at 7k includes tax and shipping.

I can let you know my specs if you want.

The custom shop can do anything at all.

It's like with racing: the fastest you can go has a whole lot to do with how much money you are willing to spend to get there.
