...just trying to inject some life into the lefty forum...

...I had my dealer check on my custom Larrivee order last week. After several calls they learned that it would be another 6 weeks or so. The sales rep called back and had one of the neck specs wrong, which he corrected himself on...

...but I think what happened was my guitar kind of got forgotten about, and the dealer's call lit a fire under them. A couple days later I heard that the guitar will now ship in about 3 weeks!

This tells me that that squeaky wheel gets the grease...

...I'll post again when it arrives!

Final update:

The Custom L-05 arrived at the local dealer last Friday, and I finally was able to get there Tuesday to pick it up.

So...unveiling; they opened the box, we pulled out the guitar case, pulled off the plastic bag, set the case on the floor and opened it...

...and wa-la... the guitar has spruce top, when I ordered mahogany.

Rats. Bummer. Any of the other specs being wrong, I might have decided to keep the guitar, but I designed the whole guitar around the hog top/hog body.

Can't believe Larrivee got this wrong, and I don't have the patience to wait for a rebuild...the build took around 9 months - that's around 3 months longer than they originally promised.

So I'm applying a fair amount of the money from this one to a lefty Gibson J-45. The store called Gibson, and they had a lefty at Montana, ready to ship; it should arrive middle of next week.

I'll let you know how the J-45 is - I've wanted one for a long time.

Oh maaaaan. What the hell?

A large company like Larivee can't get it right?

On a *custom* order?

I could understand perhaps different tuners or something, but different wood? Ridiculous.

Kudos to you for not giving them a second chance to screw it up again.

I played a pal's J45 at the Atlanta Jam a few weeks back and let me tell you, I have been thinking about dropping the cash on one. It was the ideal size, light in weight, very balanced tone with plenty of boom and sparkle, and the quality of materials and construction were superb.

Man, that really sucks.

That's seriously not good enough from Larrivee.

I'd be seriously pissed if that was my order

but a Gibson J45 man that's not a bad replacement. It'll work out in the end.

LeftRightOut,

Well, I just decided it wasn't worth getting "seriously pissed," but I know what you mean. I was very disappointed, because they're a company I've known, loved, and promoted for almost 25 years (since I bought my first one). I've spoken with Matthew Larrivee in person on the phone - several times - and he's a great guy; he's gone over the top for me a couple times on builds and guitar deals. It's just unfortunate that it happened.

In the end, I'm getting a very good deal on the J-45 from the dealer, in part because of how the Larrivee deal went south, and in part because they know it will be "in the door-out the door" and won't hang on the wall for 3-6 months or longer. And, I've spend a LOT of money with this store over the years; we have a good relationship.

I'll post after it arrives next week.

Great news on the shop taking care of you as a customer--despite what one of their suppliers did.

Building and maintaining relationships with vendors is becoming harder to do with the rapid increase in Internet commerce.

Yeah I can understand that but like you said its a company you've promoted for 25 years.

I would still contact Larrivee and least vent my disappointment.

Kudos to the store for doing the right thing .

Good ol' fashioned customer service. a rare thing these days.

"Building and maintaining relationships with vendors is becoming harder to do with the rapid increase in Internet commerce."

I've talked about this with the owner of this shop a number of times. This week when I was in there (and ordered the J-45), he said Gibson is trying to bully him into ordering ANOTHER $40K of ACOUSTIC Gibsons on top of what he's already stocking (around $20K). There's no way he can carry that kind of stock, even though he expanded his store last year and is now almost as big as the local Guitar Center (the guitar rooms, anyway).

Gibson basically doesn't give a s#!t about their dealers anymore; they just want to keep pushing and pushing them to carry more Gibson stock, no matter what the local market will bear, and no matter what the economy is like. Henry J is still up to his old tricks...
