What pickup positions are Surf players favorite playing a Strat? Are you all mostly on the bridge or the middle or somewhere else?

Last summer I saw Dick Dale and Los Straightjackets, who both used their bridge pickups primarily. I'm not sure Los Straightjackets used any other position.

Will use bridge on a select song or two (like maybe "Hawaii 5-0") but middle 98% of the time.

Bridge pickup, or, the bridge and neck combination for the jaguar/jazz master surf tones. Personally, I like running a spring reverb (e.g. pedal or outboard unit) in front of a lightly distorted amp.

I modded the Strats I play surf with so I have neck/bridge. I use that most of the time. The rest I'm on the bridge only.

I highly recommend the add bridge to neck mod for surf music on a Strat. Much thicker than bridge only on nice melodic pieces. Very JM and Jag like.

The older I get, the more I dig the middle pickup, but I gotta admit that I like the way a bridge plus neck, if you're wired that way, sounds.

If it's surf, I'll follow Eddie Angel's lead and stay on the bridge.
