Anyone know anything about this iconic axe? IS it a Fender or a one off custom guitar. Photo #6 in this link.

Info like this ? (I was just about to mention it on the miscellaneous forum) :

Mad Cat

Thanks Charente! So from reading the Mad Cat link it seems that Prince's tele was made in Japan on contract for Hohner. Very cool! No prices are listed in the site. I guess contacting the dealer would be required.

I had the story completely wrong as I thought Prince had bought it as a Hohner Prinz because of the name but apparently not - that name was used later.

A few years back I was visiting a music store in another city and by chance I noticed a very nice Telecaster on the wall and asked to play it. I took it into the sound room and played it trough a Peavey 30 or a Delta Blues amp, out of the 4 or 5 guitars I played on that visit I still remember that one, it played and sounded really good and made an impression.

It was the "Prince Guitar" made by Hohner, and this particular guitar was equipped with Kinman pickups. I don't know if it was the amp or the guitar but it had "it" I'm not a Tele guy so that's why I passed on it but I wished now that I hadn't. I think they would be worth checking out if you ever run across one.

I'm kicking myself SO hard lately.

a little over a month ago there was one of these for sale on the Nashville craigslist.

The EXACT same model.

I thought, why do I need another Tele for, let alone the Hofner model?

I could have turned that thing for some serious money lately.

Reminds me of my younger days not buying stock in Apple when they first started up..

Stratmanx are you sure it was the same model?

There were several versions.

The original Hohner ones like Prince had are VERY rare.

Hohner reissued them 3 different times after Prince became famous but they were not exactly the same as the originals built by H.S. Anderson.

Bill Lawrence also issued a version, and the Mad Cat Charente linked is by the original builder, H.S. Anderson.

Not 100%, but it sure looked close.

The seller posted it as such, but being Craigslist, you can never be sure.

And you are correct, there are a few models, so more than likely is wasn't to bona fide actual model.

I'm thinking he was asking about $700 or so for it.

Keep in mind you can never tell what will turn up in Nashville.

So many people come there to try their chance at catching the golden ring and find reality wallop's them between the eyes.

I've seen many really nice pieces show up on Craigslist and Ebay there, and I've made the 3 hour road trip many times to score a nice item.
