We got some great news yesterday. Our keyboard player, who has been seriously ill, called to say he’s ready to return. He is, according to everyone but him, the most talented musician in the band. We knew that having him in the band lets us do things that we otherwise couldn’t; but a review of our song list when we realized that we were going to be without him for an unknown period of time showed that almost half of them wouldn't work without him. Out of necessity, we’ve learned a bunch of new songs that we can play with just guitar, bass and drums for instrumentation, and just the day before accepted an offer for a Cinco de Mayo gig that would have been our first without him. He’s also a decent second guitarist, so we should have no trouble finding something for him to do on the new material.

If I had to push the reset button, I would be a keys/sax guy. It seems like there are more opportunities for them today.

"I would be a keys/sax guy"

That with a bit of vocal ability and you could write your own ticket.
