FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Telecasters / MIC Tele MP Plus bridge issue

USA Pennsylvania

I've got a new MP Plus tele with the vintage hard tail bridge. The bridge was ripping up my hand so I changed it to the Hipshot 6 String Fixed .125 Guitar. It's beautiful. However I'm starting to think that I should have went with the 1.75. The holes for the screws and strings all matched up however in order to eliminate fret buzz, the saddles screws are almost at the end of their threads. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks, all!

The original bridge might have worked for you if you had used shorter saddle height adjustment screws. Shorter grub screws are available from suppliers such as boltdepot.com.

According to Hipshot, the 0.125" plate thickness should be ideal for "standard" Telecaster geometry. Perhaps the neck mounting clearance holes in the body are too tight, and when you reattached the neck, it did not seat fully. Perhaps there is some interference in your neck pocket area (wood chips, finish build-up) to keep neck from seating flat. Perhaps you don't have enough relief in the neck.

Rather than change the Hipshot bridge, you could just use longer saddle height adjustment screws, or shim the headstock end of the neck pocket to angle the neck forward a bit.

TE 52, Thanks for the reply! I don't know if I gave you enough info. The neck hasn't been off. The saddles are angled up, The grub screws are almost all the way through the saddle. Thanks again!

What on the original bridge was ripping up your hand?

Peego, it was sharp and uncomfortable. I've solved the issues by putting the original bridge back on the guitar and taking it back. I ended up with a 2008 Deluxe Strat, HSS, MIA. She's a beauty. Thanks for your help!
