These are one of the few replacement pups made specifically for "split coil" Mustang Basses (not the MIM "Pawnshop" with the big humbucker). They are a direct drop in for the MIJ re-issues, but the pup covers of the vintage Mustangs don't fit them, from what I understand.

This is important because you must re-use your original pup covers when installing them. I think Nordstrand can accommodate your vintage 'Stang, but you must specify that that is what you have when ordering, or you'll get the ones sized to the re-issue spec.

If you have one of the MIM or MII Squier Mustangs, I can't tell you whether or not these are a direct fit for those. Check with the manufacturer.

I would not suggest installing these without the plastic covers because, unlike the factory pups, the windings on these are bare (not protected with a covering of cloth tape).

They feature two pole pieces per string, each slug being a bit smaller than the ones used in the stock pups. I left the stock pots and cap in place for now. Only 2 wires to solder, so installation is a breeze.

I'm still dialing mine in (just installed them yesterday) but have already found them to be clearer, better balanced and more articulate than the original pups. The stock pups weren't bad, but I think these are better. I'd call the differences subtle, but definitely noticeable.

I think the standard NM4s are also a direct fit for the (now discontinued) MII Squier Vintage Modified Mustang basses as well.
