Story in the news today said California pays 73 cents a gallon in tax, second to Pennsylvania (77 cents). No one can account for where 30 cents goes and what it's for. It represents about $4 billion a year.

Jake, of the 73 cents per gallon in tax, our state government can not account for 30 cents of the tax. Even more troubling is that Sacramento can not say what its for or where it goes. BTW we have some of the worst roads. Seems the state as been borrowing funds from the tax that were to be used for highways and spending on other "programs".

I always remember coming into California from Nevada on I-80. As soon as you crossed the border, I-80 was in a horrible state of affairs.

BTW, Costco at $2.90 now. Most stations are at $3 or more.

Every year (back when I was heavy into mountain biking) we'd be hit with total "sticker shock" on our way home from Moab the first time we had to fill up in CA.

Any state tax should be levied through a specific statute, so I still don't understand this.

Last night the home station was up 4 at 2.99.9.

Costco was at $2.94 earlier. We were below the national average during the winter months but are well above it now according to gasbuddy.

No local retail changes to note, but oil has cracked $70 a barrel and is a national story.
