I tried to find two pictures the same but these are close enough. What do you think, Black or white pickguard with this color finish?

Black or white guard?

It's a toss up for me. My Tele looks exactly like the white-pickguard one, and I had a serious desire to buy one with the dark pickguard...it may have been a special Nocaster.

Both are stunning....that sunburst with the maple neck.

White or parchment for a sunburst Tele or Strat. I generally am not a fan of black pickguards on Fenders UNLESS we're talking about a early Telecaster in what's now called butterscotch. Preferably, Bakelite. My recent white blonde tele project has a 5 screw white guard but I might change it out for parchment one of these days.

What exactly is a parchment, is it similar to off white color? Speaking of off white would that look better than white. Give it kind of an aged look.

Yep, parchment has a slight beige cast to the color of the plastic.

Painters call the color eggshell, but Fender doesn't want folks to think their guitars are fraJEElay like eggshells, so they called it 'parchment'.

White or cream pearl/MOTO also looks good on these.

Some folks like

tortoise, too.

I like that black pickguard. Not traditional but doesn't look like everyone else's s/b Tele.

I had a 3ply BWB black guard on a 62 Custom RI and I thought it looked pretty cool. Depends on the color of the axe and your own sense of aesthetics.

I'm shocked that no one mentioned the significant tonal differences that each pickguard offers. The black one makes minor chords even sadder and darker. The white one makes notes spank like Uncle Daddy at a family BBQ.

Silliness aside, I have a straight black guard (not BWB) on my 2-tone SB Tele with maple neck and I love the look.

My main Tele is a parts build. 3TSB, maple neck. I've tried parchment, black and tort. The black and tort guards sit in a drawer.

My rule of thumb for 3TB: if maple, black PG. If rosewood, tort PG. Simple.

I was watching a cheesy Moody Blues "live" performance back from the day and became infatuated with Justin Hayward's 67 3TB/maple Tele. You just didn't see many in that config. as most 3TB had rosewood boards. I built kind of a replica although mine has a ginormous baseball bat Nocaster type neck.
