Has some upgraded parts and is far more aged than most of the Road Worns I've seen online. The best deal I could get for a new one was $720. This ran me $710 shipped. Don't know who the seller is but I suspect this is his own project. The photos were appealing though.

Bakelite guard, serial numbered bridge, replaced saddle with brass, and a couple other things.

We shall see...

Looks good! I really need to put the brass saddles in my road worn. I think your going to like it. It looks exactly like mine as far as the relicing except the bridge is much more rusted. Glad you finally pulled the trigger! Congrats!

No, this seller or someone did a fair amount of work here. As I said, lots of the parts are upgraded (like an actual Bakelite guard with the coffee can ring, a serial numbered bridge, the chrome saddles replaced with brass and the finish checking which *looks* pretty good, and an ashtray). From what I can tell, the neck isn't badly done like those early Road Worns. The neck on this one is dated 2014 so it's the newer version but this particular sample is not typical at all of what's coming from the factory.

I bought it on pictures and price alone. I guess I'll know in a week if I got something special or a POS that photographed well. But for just over $700 shipped, I suspect I can fix what might need fixing.

Mine has the same checking as photographed. Neck is the same as well. His bridge, pickguard and saddles are different tough for sure.

Nice CG!
As far as relics go, I don't mind that one.

Ok, now that you've scratched that Blonde Ash with Black guard itch... what's next?????

Actually, what's next is to find some sort of machinery to jam along with - a looper, eband like the Boss JS-10, modeling amp, recorder, ??? But that's a different topic for a different thread.

As to Teles, getting this early styled quasi-clone should keep me good with Telecasters. I'll have this Road Worn, my Cherry Burst (WD body, '52 RI everything else), and my White Blonde partscaster (either with its current MIM neck or something else down the road).

Chris I really enjoy my Boss RC-30, as a guy who writes and plays by myself most of the time I have some excellent one man jams on this thing.

Thanks, Dennis. I was looking at some YT vids of various loopers last night. The Greg's Guitars guy gets some very tasty stuff going.

The problem is, there is soooo much out there and I can't see any of it locally.

Chris-
I have one like that from 2009 I think. Mine has been modded with more fretboard wear. diMarzio twang king pups, a 4 way switch, and brass compensated saddles. A bonus Is that it weighs just under 7 lbs. so it is my lightest Tele by several ounces. Nice guitar. Highly recommend 4 way switch that I also put in my parts caster.

I tend to like to keep things close to the original design. I do recall changing to the Strat 5-way switch in '73-74 after a tech told me I didn't have to keep hunting for that in-between position on the switch.

Teles? Traditional 60's wiring.

BTW, the seller claimed this was just under 7#. We'll see. Shipped out today from LA.

I love the irony of inspecting a road worn guitar for shipping damage...

"The guitar is mint! It exhibits all the realistic marks of a lifetime of gigging..."

Yeah that stuff cracks me up.

But the Roadworn line is very good Fender gear.

That line of marketing was heavily used with the Relic line. Mint Relic is like jumbo shrimp.

I just popped the Fender compensated brass saddles on the road worn this morning. Fuggedaboutit! Intonation is perfect and great tone!

The guitar has left Salt Lake (we're a couple hundred miles away) so it could show up tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm a little antsy as I've never bought a guitar through ebay and this was a rather impulsive purchase.
