too many guitars and not enough hands

What a week, 2 new guitars in the space of 3 days

First up late October '15 I ordered a Martin D35 and was told 4 months wait got a call last week its in country and should be here in next couple of days ( code for we want the rest of your money)

Well it turned up on Monday which was fortuitous because I had that day off from work and got to spend a couple of hours bonding with it.

Anyway that afternoon my Martin arrived, I get a call from another guitar shop my Larrivee 00-50 that I ordered in Late May '15 is in country.

After 267 days my guitar I was told should take only 8 -10 weeks (which I didn't believe anyway)is finally here. (there goes some more cash)

The Larrivee turned up Thursday so I've got two totally different beasts in the house.

First impressions

The Martin D35 is a beast plenty of bass thump and volume and note clarity with in chords and single note lines and the top has even started close to opening up yet.

after the first few chords and licks, it was like where have you been all my life

The Larrivee is a 00 size so not as much volume a dread but its got a sweet almost woody voice to the chords sweet tone nice and rounded.

But she still can hold its own with plenty of volume in single note lines The body is a little bit different to what I'm used too, but I find I'm liking the compact size.

I'll do a more in-depth review later after I've had some time to really put them through the places (next week ) I'll try to get some photos up shortly

Congrats! Looking forward to photos.

Your description of your D-35 is right on target with mine - loud, lotsa bass, thumps nicely, thick, full chords - did I say LOUD?!

Is your D-35 one of the 50th year versions (like mine)? Has the paper sticker inside on the back between the braces?

Mikey

yeah she's got the 50th sticker in it

it was partly your fault Mikey in why I got the D35 from your review. I had to have one

and the thread about Chris's Martin journey

let me tell you I'm glad I did get one

Me too. These are very well built, excellent woods (on mine, anyway), and the tone was right there almost from the beginning.

Some say that because of the lighter bracing on these, you can get away with using light gauge rather than medium gauge strings and still get great tone. I think they're right: I've really been digging Martin's Retro Monel strings, and both the lights and mediums sound excellent on this guitar... and medium Monel's are a tad lighter than other Martin mediums, too...

I hope you realize, they don't exist unless you provide pics! :-)
