Isn't this about the same thing as the Squier Classic '51 or something like that? I bought the Squier verion a month or so at a pawn shop.

I can imagine Fender designers sitting around a meeting table saying "what can we do next?" "Let's take the electro mechanics of a Tele and put it in an offset body, we haven't done that yet!"

I think its a great idea for Fender, but it shows that there are only so many great ideas for guitars at this point. Although the neck design is a step forward. Perhaps the pups too (ie, noiseless + vintage sound).

I wish Fender would release a Stratocaster but modify it with a Tele bridge and Tele bridge pup assemembly and leave everything else as is.

They could call that just StratTele. I would be interested in that.

"Although the neck design is a step forward."

What's different about it?

I think Fender should go back to making a standard Tele and Strat only and then let the owners do the mods.

Not sure I understand the purpose behind this one, it has left me scratching my head a bit. Why?

I suspect someone at FMC said "Why not?" which kinda explains (IMHO) a lot of their output recently and probably their bottom line issues too...

It's kinda cool and I see Warmoth selling all kinds of hybrids; Strat with Tele hardware and visa versa. Obviously there is a market but I agree, call it something other than a Telecaster.

I Like it, a lot! Not a Telecaster though. I love a Bigsby on a Tele! Actually I have a factory Tele from 1968 with a Bigsby, works and looks great!!That said, I need a Telecaster with a string through body to complete the set.

So should we rename it?

How about just "Surfcaster" (which I know has been used somewhere...)?
