I'm active at a local music school and help with the student performances. I've been asked to do the Mick Ronson parts on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust as part of an instructors set.

I am honored to participate in this fashion.

I played & sang this song acoustically back when it was released and for some reason just let it go. It is great to revisit it in a manner other than listening. Mick, in a simplistic manner just killed on this tune. Tasty fills and sweet harmonics. I'll get a chance to give the Les Paul some love.

I'm so jazzed. I started woodshedding last night.

How did the gig go?

Ronson was a *master* of understatement, which is odd, considering this was glam rock!

I particularly like his little single-note ascending lick behind "...and the Spiders from Mars." It blows me away when I hear it, and it's dead simple to play too.

He was such a tasteful player, and never ever overplayed. He was also a master arrranger, and could do drums, horns, you name it. He is greatly missed on my little planet.

The gig is in early March so I've have plenty of time to be real comfortable. There is a lot of double tracking on that cut. It's really cool that all I have to do is the lead chops with all the cool harmonics and the like, chord swells, totally fun stuff.

Ronson tracked a few things in octaves so I'm figuring out where on the neck I want to play it.

This gig came together on the 19th of March but I forgot about posting the results until now.

I nailed it, the Marshall crunch the harmonics the whole ball of wax. My backing band was tight and the vocalist nailed it too. Almost a tearful moment.

Later in the day there was a break in the action so I got up and played an acoustic version of Luck Man by ELP as we had just lost Keith Emerson. This was a tearful moment at least for me.
