FDP Forum / The 'Pup' Tent / New Lace Dually - Not perfectly lined up and off in color

I just got a new hot gold dually bridge pickup.

It's not exactly lined up nicely and the back one is actually a hair higher. I'm not sure it will make a difference in sound and I'm probably the only one who would ever notice.

The white color of the covers are also a little off, as if they are a bit older than the other hot golds already in the guitar.

On the bottom, it has a January 2015 date written on it. Should I bother addressing this, or just install it and let 'er rip?

EDIT: I'm just going to install it. But it's probably still worth a discussion.

the back one being a hair higher I think is good...

since the string vibrates less at the bridge, the pup being closer will improve output...theoretically speaking

a couple of pics would help answer your questions...

did you put it on a tele or a strat?

It's totally possible the pickup was made in Jan 15. These things are not like food; they have no limited shelf life.

Far as the color goes, it's a known problem. Not just for Lace, or Fender or even Gibson--which can't match cream pickguard and pickup ring colors on their Les Pauls.

Does it look like it was dropped? That may explain the bobbins not lining up. Also, do the lead ends look factory fresh?

Also, should I trim these long wires? I'd like to keep them long to keep my options greater in the future. Will this damage anything in terms of noise, etc?

It doesn't look dropped. The lead ends look perfect. It's just a little less than straight.

Here's a picture.

I went ahead and installed it in the pickguard since I had everything in front of me. It's a bit tight and does rub on the opening. I haven't put it in the guitar yet. Maybe it is worth me sending back. I didn't cut any wires. They are a bit long.

Here's a pic of the pickup in the pickguard. It's hard to get the camera in the phone to really focus on it.

And it's going in my Strat Plus.

I've got a set of "Lace Custom Shop" Hot Golds in it right now. The neck is slightly overwound, the middle is normal, and the bridge is a slightly overwound version of the hot gold bridge, around 13.7k. A recent mod to the TBX tone control really woke the thing up. I've always wanted to put a dually in there and I figured doing a 13.2k/13.2k with a switch would allow me to keep all the tones I like but add the humbucker angle along with it. If I could take this dually apart with any confidence, I might include the 13.7k in there, but I'm not sure it'd be of any value.

I'm using springs. It's a prewired pick guard from 920d. I'm selling the regular golds that came in it and using the pick guard, pots and switches to house my pickups. I liked the feel of the springs a little better than the rubber tubes.

Thanks for fixing the links. I'm sure there's a way to simply adjust the washers in the mount or something to straighten this out. I just have no experience with them.

no problem...
my dually's are on tele's ..they did them a bit different, as they are individual pickups connected by a small bar underneath....to an extent, they can be adjusted each by themselves...

its nice because there is a bit more flexibility..you can pair a gold with a blue, red with a blue...etc..

Do the duallys get a true humbucking sound in full humbucking mode and a true single coil sound when coil split or is one of the modes compromised somewhat?
