Thanksgiving 2011 I was in Honolulu and took a tour of the Pono ukulele design factory & showroom, a fascinating experience. I walked out with a very nice mahogany tenor uke which I love.
At the time they had also just started making guitars, which today get high praise from all quarters, particularly on *another forum* that deals exclusively with acoustic instruments.
They are made in Indonesia under the strict supervision of Pono Hawaii. Painfully high quality control is observed.

Last week I finally took the plunge (and advantage of their year-end sale) and bought a C30-SP - Spruce top, rosewood b&s, ebony fb, abalone rosette & purfling, cutaway, 24.75" scale, 1.75" nut width, grover open-back tuners, hsc included - all for under $1k. (Non-sale would have made it about $1400.) It's a fingerstyle dream not to mention quite a looker. Even the wife didn't object to 'another guitar' this time!

I nosed around their site, listened to some sound clips.

Unsavory in nature, liquid in scope

I've been looking at their parlor size 12 string, I might take the plunge after the holidays.

Thanks HeavyDuty.
The notes just leap out of it, too. For a new guitar it's crazy how 'opened up' it sounds. Can't imagine what it'll sound like in a year or two...
