I too use the bullets and I think they've gotten a bad rap. The hole in the block is chamfered. The bullet is shaped to fit the hole exactly. You don't have a ball end returning to a different position every time you use your trem.

It makes sense to me and I've used them for years against all the recommendations not to. The Physics of them works.

I've used GHS Boomers TNT gauge for many years, 10/13/17/30/44/52, mostly blues rock and old metal, all amps, they rule.

Favorite, not sure anymore....

I used to play a lot more and use heaver strings. At one point I was using 11's. I don't play anywhere near as much now and I have been experimenting with lighter strings. I have a Strat currently with some Dunlop Reverend Willy's 7's. It takes a different setup (trem, pickups, etc), touch and amp settings, but it can be done (and it's fun).

Always trying new things and having fun.

YMMV

FWIW, I also had to stop using DR Pure Blues for exactly the same reason. They sounded great but almost immediately starting giving me intonation headaches. I also love the GHS Burnished Nickels.

To give an example I put a brand new set of Martin electric strings (bulk set of 48 sets bought online but good nonetheless) on one of my Strats and left Elixirs on another for a NYE gig.

When I got home the Elixirs still sounded new (they were already on the guitar for some months) while the new strings sounded like rubber bands.

With my Strat I play a set that Fender no longer makes - 150TR, which goes 10-38. I think Ernie Ball still sell these gauges, so when I run out of the Fenders I'll get them.

Apparently this was the set that Jimi Hendrix used, but I only learned that about 15 years after I started playing them, when there was an internet to tell me such things.

If the strat sets up well enough:

GHS 11-50 not that I love GHS strings but that's a good gauge combination, and they're fine.

If not, Dean Markley 10-46, just the normal string, not the cryo-babble stainless stuff.

D'Addarios are also fine.

I play just about everything. Gigging amp is Fuchs, which is basically a Fender amp with an OD Channel. I play quite a bit of clean, and quite a bit of OD. No metal these days.

Never been a fan of Ernie Ball strings, they're the only brand where I broke one tuning up a new string, not even going over (in those days I was playing 9's). Not a fan of Fender strings either, or Gibson.

A buncha years back Danelectro made strings and Chuck's was blowing 'em out at $2.79/set. At that price they were fine, but was glad when I finally used up the dozen or so set I bought.

One more mention I do like DR strings. I am not sure they're worth the extra cost, but they are sturdy, and sound good.

I've used all kinds of strings on my Strats. Now I use the following.

D'Addario EXL 9-42 on my "blues" Strat ('13 MIA 3T maple).

D'Addarop EXL 8.5-40 on my "rock" Strat ('10 MIA Oly maple).

GHS, D'Addarios, Ernie Ball.

I rotate through those three depending on what I have here.

Can't say that I have a real preference.

Anything worthy and in the names of many mentioned prior to my posting this message. I tend to lean toward standard .11 D'Addarios when I go out to buy them. I have a set of jhs .11's given to me as a gift from my kids recently..... If I like those I'll get those next time...
