I've been using Reaper and a Roland guitar synth to record backing tracks for our worship team. I'll typically record the tune with my scary voice as a "sketch" then back waaaaay down the lead voice for our worship leader to sing over the backing track. My guitar synth rig has a USB memory stick slot so I can load the backing track and I can play my guitar synth over that, going DI into the board.

I'm still learning but the mix of being able to record horns, strings, keys, and synth pads opened up a whole new world of possibilities. We are a small church and began wringing our hands when our youth bass and drum players went off to college, so having this capability is a new blessing.

Sounds good. Did you record all of that with a guitar synth? We usually do that song with drums, bass, acoustic guitar and lap steel. I like your arrangement, sounds much more professional than ours.

Thanks for the kind words. The drums were sequenced with a free virtual plugin called PowerDrumKit 2 by Manda Audio. Everything else was through the Roland GR-55. I should add that one of the settings feeds the signal from the magnetic pickups on the guitar through the 13-pin cable to the processor section of the synth. So you can have straight guitar going into multi-effects, or COSM modelled guitar sounds, or synth sounds, or a mixture of 2 synth engines + guitar or modelled guitar.

Personally, I would much rather play with a live band than to my self-arranged backing tracks.

Blessings,
Mark
