Hello

The trem on the jag is fairly stiff so what is the best way to make it easier to use ?

Change out the spring ?

I usually lithium grease and then abuse the trem bar (with or without strings) for a while.

Adjust tension as well beforehand.

Have you adjusted the tension screw on the trem plate?

Thansk for the replies
Yes I have adjusted the tension screw so that the lock will work

It takes more pressure than other guitars I have to move the trem arm ( not much really but I have a guitar where a gentle pressure will give a trem Shimmer") on this guitar it needs more.

A bit more adjustment on the tension screw might still help - beyond the point where you get the lock to work.

Other than that, I'd go with Rob's abuse advice.

Late to the party here but which Jag do you have? Different tailpiece and bridge combos yield different results.

The JM/Jag style vibrato even when perfect takes a bit more effort than say a vintage Strat style bridge.

The guitar in question is 64 jag and it is being compared to a 2010 MIJ jag.

Dont know if it is an original spring in the 64

"The JM/Jag style vibrato even when perfect takes a bit more effort than say a vintage Strat style bridge."

Depends entirely on how the Strat is set up.
I like a bit more tension in my Strat trems, so I set them up that way. As a result, my Thinskin Jazzmaster feels a lot softer - with the stock spring.
