General newcomer question:Can I safely assume that we don't want to repeat any songs from last year?

G-Man: My input for the ladies doing vocals is old school & limited; I would say anything by Aretha,Janis, and Linda R would work; unless you want to go into the Motown thing, which is a whole different direction.Going for the current artist selections is a good path to follow.

Pete: don't worry about not enough guitar songs at this point, the songs have to get past the "List of Love" first. Lets fill the list, and chop from there.

we do repeat songs from previous years.

there have some that have become standbys and some others wanted to play on but did not the first time around.

We even repeat at Clamfest. We did 25 or 6 to 4 twice at a Clamfest cause it was so good, the horns were tight and we had a second vocalist who wanted to try it

To piggy back off that, repeat songs are always a little different too. There might be variation in it because there could be different people on it or someone could be using different equipment or a different set-up on it. Sometimes it's just a great song that everyone wants to do it again to improve their parts from last time. I think Clamfest is a wonderful evolutionary experiment, too, in the regards of repeat songs are never really the same. You really find players that you work with well only seeing them once or twice a year.

Thank you guys;

I was using last years song list as a "Not to do list"; I like your approach better.

Here is a thought! I heard a Bob Marley song called "Three Little Birds" done live at a party and at a bar by different bands. Obviously the arrangements were different but basically a Regae rythm. So let me throw that out for the list to see where it goes.

"Three Little Birds" - Bob Marley

More ideas are forthcoming !!!!!!!

I've joined a traditional Irish band and been fiddling around with the banjo recently (that's a little music joke there...very little I'll admit...I've been driving all day)

would anyone be interested in Squeezebox? maybe?

Call me names has some interesting guitar work

I love me some Joan
I did "water into wine" with a vocal/acoustic group last spring
great chord changes

(yes, gman, she is British and it was a pop hit in the yearly 80s.... sue me!)

Since the Who turn 50 this year and prove geezers can still rock (as long as they are on their meds) I think Squeezebox is a great suggestion.

I see very little difference musically between the two Peace/Love versions. Like Alan said earlier- Clamfest is usually a variation on the original

G-Man: I like the way you think. After careful thought and consideration, I would like to nominate the following songs for the "List of Love"
"Long Live Rock" - The Who
"Already Gone" - The Eagles
"Listen to the Music" - Doobie Brothers
"Gimme Three Steps" - Lynard Skynyrd
"I'm No Angel" - Greg Allman
"Born to be Wild" - Steppenwolf
"Born on the Bayou" - CCR
"What I Like About You" - The Romantics
"Gimme Some Lovin" - S. Winwood (orig/artist)
"Jumpin Jack Flash" - Leon Russell style (We will definitely need the Piano & B3 for this)

Any of the Bluse Brother's or Chicago numbers, I'll let the "Horn Section" suggest what they feel can be done; and the ladies suggestions will speak for themselves.

I like the idea of the "Blue's" numbers, those you can do with or without horns; I suggest we start and end the "Clam-Fest" with Blue's Songs, something we can improvise on would be good, especially guitar solos.

Fantastic job on the list G-Man; you are the best!

Allen, again thank you, for your advice to the "Newcomer", you'll always have a dedicated drummer for whatever songs you want to do.

NOW! Let's get this party started!

You're welcome Grizbear. If you drum like Charlie Watts I'll definitely take you up on your dedication. Practice that cowbell for Honky Tonk Woman ;-)

Won't be worth coming if there's no Buddy Holly or Chuck Berry.

How about Pretenders (Chain Gang or others) and Jefferson Airplane (Somebody to Love) for strong female tunes. Also, check out my friend/former secretary Dana Fuchs sing Helter Skelter on you tube. She kills it (and everything else she sings).
